After earning his BS in Chemistry from the University of Hartford, he earned his PhD in Analytical Chemistry at Arizona State University. He has served in numerous governmental roles, including as a chief scientist in the transportation security laboratory as well as the chief of the applied research division, both at the Department of Homeland Security. Further, he is published in his field, has been invited to speak at numerous explosives conferences, and is internationally known in the field of mass spectrometry and explosives detection.
