Dr. Barbara Couvadelli is a fellowship-trained adult and pediatric Neuropsychologist.


Dr. Couvadelli's areas of expertise are clinical neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience, cognitive rehabilitation, and health and sports psychology.



Dr. Couvadelli obtained her PhD in Behavioral Medicine/Clinical Health Psychology with a Specialization in Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuropsychology at the University of North Texas. She completed an American Psychological Association approved internship in clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation at Eastern Virginia Medical School, a predoctoral fellowship in cognitive rehabilitation at the New York University (NYU) Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation, and a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in adult and pediatric neuropsychology at JFK Medical Center.

Dr. Couvadelli holds a medical degree from the University of Athens in Greece, where she graduated with highest honors. Over the years, Dr. Couvadelli has been trained by and collaborated with many prominent neuropsychologists, psychologists, and neurologists, such as Michael O'Callaghan, Edith Kaplan, Dean Delis, Ernest Harrell, Craig Neumann, Keith Cicerone, Joe Giacino, Yehuda Ben-Yishay, Arthur Walters, and Sudhansu Chokroverty, among others, each of whom has provided invaluable guidance in her professional development.

Currently, Dr. Couvadelli is the head of Pediatric Neuropsychology at JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. She also holds the appointment of Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Seton Hall University School of Health and Medical Sciences.

Dr. Couvadelli is an avid researcher. She has been the research coordinator and collaborator for several National Institutes of Health grants and has co-authored several scientific papers. Her research and publications cover topics ranging from sleep disorders, ADHD, personality assessment, traumatic brain injury, and rehabilitation. Her current research studies pertain to the neuropsychology of insomnia, cognitive-based mindfulness treatment for insomnia, and the neuropsychology of pediatric seizures.

Dr. Couvadelli’s specialties cover both child and adult neurological disorders, including autism, ADHD, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, brain tumors, and several other neurological and learning disorders. Her therapeutic services implement cognitive behavioral therapies and mindfulness-based techniques for the treatment of depression, anxiety, and adjustment to chronic illness, and sports-related psychological issues. In addition, Dr. Couvadelli has extensive training in the cognitive rehabilitation of neurological disorders and has developed individualized treatment plans for numerous patients.

In addition to her research and clinical work, Dr. Couvadelli is the founder of the International Hellenic Neuropsychological and Rehabilitation Society. She also serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Medical Psychology and as an editorial board member for The International Journal of Medicine and Archives as well as The International Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Couvadelli currently serves as member of the Child and Adolescent Committee for the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey.
