He received his BS in chemistry from Florida State University before earning his MD from the University of Miami. He subsequently completed an internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and a neurology residency at Letterman Army Medical Center. This expert is dual-board certified in neurology and spinal cord injury medicine. He is certified by the American Society of Neurorehabilitation and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is active in his field as a member of several organizations, including the International Spinal Cord Society and the American Academy of Neurology. He is also highly involved in research, having authored numerous books and peer-reviewed articles and spoken as an invited lecturer at various conferences throughout his career. He has formerly served as a staff neurologist at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, a staff scientist of neuropharmacology at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, the director of medical student education in the neurology department at the University of Miami, and the chief of spinal cord injury service at the Miami VA medical center. Currently, this expert serves as a professor of clinical neurology and the director of the spine division in the neurology department at a major Florida university.
