Expert Qualifications
Mr. Robert Lee Gibson has over 57 years of experience in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerodynamics, and Flight Testing. He earned his AAS in Aeronautical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University Cal Poly and his BS in Engineering Sciences from the State University of New York Suffolk County Community College. Currently, he is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Airline Transport Pilot and Flight Instructor. This expert became an astronaut in August 1979, flying five missions and completing a total of 36-1/2 days in space. While at NASA, he served as the Chief of the Astronaut Office, as Deputy Director of Flight Crew Operations. He was also a Captain and First Officer at Southwest Airline where he flew and operated Boeing 737s and over his career, has earned over 13,000 flight hours in over 50 types of civil and military aircraft. Currently, this expert serves as an Aviation Consultant at Engineering Systems Inc.
