Expert Qualifications
This expert earned a BS in biology, as well as a MS and PhD in marine sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is an active member of a number of professional organizations, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society for Microbiology and The Oceanography Society. She currently serves as a professor of marine sciences at a university in Georgia, where her research focuses on deep water habitats and extreme environments, and tracks the cycling and fate of hydrocarbons, nutrients, sulfur, metals and trace gases. As the project director of a research consortium focusing on the impacts of oil and gas inputs to the Gulf, she studied the Deepwater Horizon oil spill extensively. She has been interviewed and featured in numerous news stories related to her research, and has over 150 publications.
