Expert Qualifications
This expert has been a board-certified anesthesiologist for over nearly four decades. He earned his BS in molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin and his MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin and served as an intern in internal medicine at Albany Medical Center. After completing an anesthesiology residency at the University of Texas Medical Galveston, he completed a fellowship in cardiac and vascular anesthesia at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston and a second fellowship in critical care anesthesia at the University of Chicago. He also holds an MBA with a concentration in the health sector from Duke University. He is an active member of many professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists where he has held a number of leadership positions. He has written over 300 manuscripts, book chapters, and abstracts as well as 6 textbooks and is recognized as an expert on topics concerning perioperative echocardiography and perioperative blood pressure risk, perioperative medicine and population health, healthcare strategy, and health economics. Formerly, he served as an assistant, associate, and then full professor of anesthesiology at the University of Chicago where he also served as the associate chairman of anesthesia and critical care and the chief of cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesia. He was also the director of the surgical intensive care unit and the assistant chairman of the department of anesthesia at Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital. He has also served on several FDA committees and advisory panels. He is currently the executive vice-chairman and the director of the perioperative enhancement team of the department of anesthesiology, and a professor of both anesthesiology and population health at a prestigious university in North Carolina. He also serves as an adjunct professor at a globally top-ranked college in London.
