This case involves a 65-year-old woman with acute renal failure who underwent a kidney transplant. Prior to the transplant, the patient used a peritoneal dialysis catheter. She contracted pneumonia 6 months prior to the operation and was placed on antibiotics, but had a negative reaction to it. She reported the use of the antibiotic and her reaction to the ER physicians. Following the surgery, she was prescribed an antibiotic. However, she soon started to experience pain at the site of the transplant and fatigue. It was found that the nephrologist was never notified of her history with the antibiotic and she was prescribed the same one which put the transplanted kidney in jeopardy.
