Gynecologist Sued for Spreading Cancer During Myomectomy

After undergoing a standard laparoscopic myomectomy to remove fibroid tissue from her uterus, a woman faced severe ramifications after the procedure helped spread cancer throughout her body. The gynecologist had used a morcellator to divide the tissue into smaller pieces to facilitate removal without removing the uterus entirely. However, it became apparent after the procedure that the patient’s fibroids had gone undiagnosed and were malignant, and the morcellation procedure had unwittingly spread the cancerous tissue throughout the patient’s uterus. Diagnosed with fatal cancer, the patient’s ensuing medical trial sought the perspective of an expert in similar procedures who could comprehensively explain what had gone wrong.
